I made a small angled jig out of scrap 2x4's to plane some bevels on the ends of some lathe for gunnels.

I really enjoy using this old craftsman router. I put a larger acrylic base on it with straight edges so you can use it along a straight edge to guide it, although I didn't use a guide for this.

The sound of the router bit singing through wood. Music.

I did it in 2 passes, set the router deeper for second pass.

Probably should have been a sharper angle but I plan to bolt through the joints so we'll see how it works. I also ran the lathe through the planer so now they're only a heavy half thick. They seemed very stiff clamping them to the boat to check the ends but now should flex better around the hull.
Below I got two glued up with Tite-Bond waterproof. Clamped a short board to side to line them up along the edge.

My brother was up on Saturday and with his help we got fiberglass cloth on the bottom but you can't tell in the picture I took. I thought it would be good to cover just the bottom with cloth cause of rocks and stuff.

I was feeding lathe into the planer here, from the far side.

My brother and a friend stopped up Saturday and we got the outer gunnels stuck on with liquid nails. Well, actually they did most of the work and I supervised. It's getting difficult to maneuver around the living room so their ability to climb over stuff was very helpful. Tomorrow I can glue up the inner gunnels and after that prime them. The whole outside of the boat, inside too under the primer, has been "painted" with polyester resin. The blotches on the outer part of the hull are bondo putty filling voids in the outer skin of the ply.

There's the inners and outers stuck on and bolted through every rib. The glue joints all should have been wood to wood but the machine screws I put through makes it seem very strong. And yes, I know I should have run the outer gunnels out beyond the bow! That'll be an improvement for the next one.

I've been slacking off, April 5th 2010 and the boat's not done yet. It's 80 degrees out in the sun and the cherry blossoms are starting to fall already!
